Welcome to the new ouno. We’ve updated our interface for interacting with your i-Name. However the biggest change you’ll notice is that we now offer OunoContext as a new service! OunoContext is a new way of keeping your contact numbers, email addresses and even postal mail addresses at your finger tips; where you can use it from any phone, any email client or send postal mail from anywhere.
Just add another persons i-Name or contact information, contextually, so you can easily recall it. This can be a name like, “Sue” or a NickName like, “SuzyQ” or any other way you’d like to recall the contact information, like, “red.lipstick.girl”. Then use that context you’ve set up to contact the person as you wish over email, postal mail or telephone.
Man, that sounds cool, but why use context?
We call it OunoContext, as opposed to OunoContacts because we don’t just store contact information and let you access it like most addressbooks do. We actually let you choose how you would like to contact someone and then let you use that name to do it. We also work within any application, not just the one who’s stored your contacts information. Okay, so lets make this a bit clearer.
Say you want to send John (85bball_play2000@example.com) an email from your yahoo account. You’ll usually have the following steps:
- Type “85bball_play2000@example.com” assuming you remember this is his address, if so then skip to step 7.
- Start typing “John Zimmerman” in the To: field.
- Then his name may come up (if you’ve added him to your contacts as at least “John Z <85bball_play2000@example.com>”) if so then skip to step 7.
- View incoming messages (hopefully on the first page) and find one from him based on the subject (assuming he’s sent you a message before) if so then skip to step 7.
- View outgoing messages to see one you’ve sent before based on the message, once you find it skip to step 10.
- View an outside of yahoo contact list to get the number.
- Send the email to “85bball_play2000@example.com”
The kicker of the whole scenario above is if you don’t remember the email address that John choose for himself, then you’re going to have to hopefully have it stored in the email client you are trying to use. It could even be more difficult if you are trying to send emails from different accounts and/or services, or even if it’s between a, “personal” email and, “work” email address.
Okay, so the situation’s been laid out.
With OunoContext you can associate John’s email address with one that you can easily recall. For example if you refer to John as “Zimm” and he’s the only one you know, then that would be perfect! If you have the i-Name “=ouno” then you could assign Johns email address to “=ouno*zimm”. Therefore when you want to email John, you don’t have to remember “85bball_play2000@example.com” you can remember “=ouno*zimm” and shoot the email off. You could actually write “=ouno*zimm” in the To: field.
It doesn’t stop there. You can assign a phone number to “=ouno*zimm” and use that same name to make phone calls to “Zimm”. Regardless of whether you are on your mobile phone or not, or any phone for that matter; we have made it possible to make phone calls to “=ouno*zimm” from even the lowly landline.
To top it off, you can assign a postal mailing address to “=ouno*zimm” and simply write that name on a label, stamp the envelope and send it off. No worries on what John’s zipcode or how to spell, “Minneapolis” correctly. Just send the birthday card to “=ouno*zimm”.
Woah, Liking this use everywhere thing?
As a bonus if your buddy, “Zimm” had an i-Name (say, =jz), then you could hook that i-Name with your OunoContext. At which point you’d never have to update your contact book again, because he’ll be doing it for you (I’ll talk more about this in a later post).
All of these features we’ve outlined are available today, right now! You can use OunoContext for any or all of your communication needs. Check out our site at http://www.ouno.com for more info. We hope to see you using Ouno soon!
